APPOINTMENT POLICIES

Office Visits by Appointment

To minimize your waiting time, Hunter Mill Animal Hospital office visits are by appointment only. For scheduled appointments, please arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment to allow time for check-in. New clients should arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of their scheduled appointment to fill out any additional paperwork.

While the industry standard for appointment times is just 15 minutes, at Hunter Mill Animal Hospital, 30-minute appointments are standard for all of our patients. We believe it’s important to take the time to get a thorough understanding of your pet’s issues from you, as well as from your pet’s behavior and medical exam. In addition, if you have a nervous pet, we take the time to ensure their comfort during their exam.

Please note: If your appointment is delayed due to an emergency situation, we appreciate your understanding and patience!

Appointment Arrival Policy

For the safety of your pet, yourself and others, we ask that your dog is properly restrained and on a leash while in our waiting area or exam rooms. Cats must be in an appropriate carrier or leashed (and we know how much cats like leashes, so a carrier is probably the better choice!). We want to keep all pets safe and comfortable while visiting, so please, no exceptions.

Running Late due to Traffic?

We are committed to doing our best to keep our appointment schedule running on time. We also recognize this region has some of the worst traffic congestion in the nation.  If you are running late, please call and notify us of your estimated time of arrival.

Appointment Cancellation Policy

All scheduled appointments are confirmed via phone 48 hours prior to the appointment. Hunter Mill Animal Hospital requires 24-hour notice of cancellations for scheduled appointments. Extended care reservations and/or surgical appointments will be subject to a cancellation fee.

During Hours Emergencies

Emergency cases will always receive immediate attention, followed by previously scheduled appointments. If you have an emergency situation, please try to call us on your way to the hospital, so we will be prepared to start treatment right away.

After Hours Emergency

If you have a medical emergency after normal business hours, please contact The Hope Center located at 140 Park Street S.E. Vienna, Virginia 22180.

After Hours Non-Emergency

If your pet requires next day non-life threatening veterinary attention, but you have a work or other conflict, please contact us first thing in the morning to arrange a Day Admission Exam. A doctor will examine your pet during the day, and contact you in a timely manner with an assessment and treatment plan.

Walk Ins

While we try to accommodate walk-ins, scheduled appointments take priority. Please call ahead of your arrival to determine appointment availability.

Extended Appointments

We also offer extended appointments for patients in need of extra time. (i.e. puppies/kittens, seniors, very sick patients, consultations, etc.) When making your appointment, please let our receptionist know your concerns, so we may schedule time accordingly.

Payment Policy

We require full payment at the time services are rendered. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Cash and personal in-state checks (with a valid Virginia driver’s license).
